Founded in 1982 by a collective of Chinese American families hailing from Taiwan, Tidewater Chinese School (TCS) stands as a non-profit organization committed to delivering Chinese language education and cultural services to the local community in Virginia’s Tidewater Area. Emphasizing affordability, TCS endeavors to ensure that Chinese language and cultural education are within reach of all who seek to learn. Governed by a parent-elected Board of Directors, the school cultivates a collaborative atmosphere between faculty and families, fostering a supportive and enriching educational journey for students.
TCS boasts a diverse array of classes, encompassing Chinese language instruction in both simplified and traditional forms, alongside cultural offerings like folk dance, Chinese chess, calligraphy, music, chorus, and martial arts. The dedicated faculty team at TCS is dedicated to providing students with top-notch instruction and support in a nurturing setting. Operating on Saturdays, TCS adheres to a two-semester academic calendar synchronized with the local Public School system, ensuring consistent and structured learning opportunities for students of all ages and proficiency levels.
With an enrollment of around 180 students spread across 22 classes, Tidewater Chinese School remains steadfast in its mission to advance Chinese language and culture within the community.
