Welcome to the English Language Institute (ELI) at the University of Utah, where we have been dedicated to helping students learn English in an academic environment, build friendships, and immerse themselves in American culture since 1990. ELI offers an Intensive English Program with eight proficiency levels, equipping students for effective communication in both academic and non-academic settings. Upon achieving a “B” average or higher in level 8, students can gain admission to the University of Utah’s undergraduate program without needing a TOEFL or IELTS score.
At ELI, we understand that mastering English goes beyond the classroom – it’s a holistic experience. Our skilled instructors, with teaching backgrounds in the U.S. and abroad, guide students on their language journey. In addition to academic support, our ELI staff is on hand to assist with various aspects of student life in Utah, from visa procedures to transportation. We offer a range of activities, from hiking in the picturesque Wasatch Mountains to exploring museums and attending events in downtown Salt Lake City, enriching the overall learning adventure.
Recognized by the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA) and authorized by the U.S. Immigration Service to issue SEVIS system I-20’s, ELI maintains rigorous standards in English language education. Our focus on creating a nurturing and immersive environment for students aligns with our belief in holistic language learning, ensuring that students not only enhance their English proficiency but also engage deeply with American culture.
