Detailed Information

The International Rescue Committee supports refugees, asylees, human trafficking survivors, torture victims, and other immigrants in America to thrive. Annually, thousands of individuals, forced to escape violence and persecution, find refuge in the safety and freedom of the United States. Collaborating with government entities, civil society organizations, and local volunteers, the IRC assists them in leveraging their past experiences as valuable assets in their new communities. In Wichita and various offices nationwide, the IRC aids in rebuilding their lives.

Refugees, originating from conflict and crisis-stricken regions like Congo, Iraq, and Eritrea, seek safety and opportunities to progress. The United States has a rich history of providing sanctuary to those escaping turmoil and oppression. Once identified and resettlement-cleared by the United Nations refugee agency, refugees are supported by the U.S. government, the IRC, and eight other national resettlement agencies to begin anew in America. Among the 25 million refugees globally, less than 1 percent are considered for resettlement worldwide.

Through collaborative efforts of IRC staff, volunteers, and community partners, refugees are empowered to regain their dignity, self-reliance, and active participation in their new societies. The IRC delivers a variety of programs, including immigration, youth, and English language initiatives to community members. By engaging in activities like fundraising, volunteering, and providing essential resources, individuals can contribute to the IRC’s mission of enabling refugees to thrive and make positive contributions to their new communities.
