Detailed Information

The University of Hawai’i at Mānoa Chinese Flagship Center provides an enriching educational journey for students aspiring to master Mandarin Chinese. As a key initiative under the Language Flagship program, our goal is to redefine language education in the U.S. by offering intensive language training to driven university students. By combining challenging coursework, advanced curriculum development, and immersive cultural experiences, students at the Chinese Flagship Center are prepared to excel as global professionals and cultural bridges between the U.S. and Greater China.

Central to the mission of the Chinese Flagship Center is a dedication to accessibility and empowerment through education. We offer substantial financial aid opportunities to ensure that all students, regardless of financial circumstances, can access our programs. With a strong emphasis on personalized attention and a Capstone Year featuring specialized study opportunities abroad or domestically, students are equipped to seamlessly merge high proficiency in Chinese with their chosen fields of study. Our committed staff, comprising Chinese faculty, instructors, and teaching assistants, are here to guide students on their educational paths.

In partnership with the national Language Flagship organization, the Chinese Flagship Center at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa presents a unique avenue for students to attain professional proficiency in Mandarin Chinese. By participating in this federally funded program, students not only earn an undergraduate degree but also have the chance to further their language education and gain certification in professional proficiency. Through collaborations with other Flagship programs on campus, like the Korean Language Flagship Center, and engagement with local high schools and ROTC programs, the Chinese Flagship Center actively fosters language learning and cultural exchange within the community.
